Academy Motorsport make Ford Mustang GT4 switch
27 November 2019
Academy Motorsport will join forces with Multimatic and Ford Performance and will run the Ford Mustang GT4 in the GT4 European Series and the British GT Championship in 2020.
The British squad, which raced in the series with Aston Martin since 2016, will enter two Mustang GT4s after becoming a Multimatic-approved agent for the Ford Mustang GT4 in Europe.
"We are delighted to be representing Ford Performance and Multimatic in Europe," said Academy Motorsport MD, Matt Nicoll-Jones.
"This is what we have aspired to since we started Academy Motorsport, 19 years ago. Our aspirations have always been to excel in GT racing, and I believe that this partnership with Multimatic and association with Ford Performance will provide us with a truly competitive package. The product and support speaks for itself, with the results of the Mustangs this year alone convincing us that this was the right path."
"It’s outstanding to have a team of the calibre of Academy Motorsport representing Multimatic Motorsports and Ford Performance here in Europe, continuing with the Mustang GT4 where we left off last year," added Larry Holt, Chief Technical Officer at Multimatic.
"We proved the car to be highly capable in British GT in 2019, only just missing the championship by a whisker and I’m confident that Matt and his guys are going to carry on with the job and maintain the momentum both in the UK and continental Europe."
