Lessennes puts Verschuur McLaren on top in second Zandvoort practice

12 July 2019

The #14 Equipe Verschuur McLaren was fastest in the second wet Free Practice session at the Zandvoort circuit this afternoon. Benjamin Lessennes set the fastest time of the session on his last lap, completing the 4.3-km circuit in a time of 1m48.345.

Heavy rain showers hitting the Zandvoort circuit between the end of the opening practice session and the start of Free Practice 2 resulted in a very wet track early on.

As the track conditions improved, so did lap times and the final moments of the session saw several drivers improving the fastest lap time. Nine of the top 10 cars posted their lap after the checkered flag had come out.

Lessennes was 0.280s faster than Nicolaj Møller-Madsen in the #1 Phoenix Racing Audi and another 0.271s faster than the #25 MDM Motorsport BMW of Alec Udell.

Fourth fastest overall in the wet - and first in Pro-Am - was the #22 Allied Racing Porsche of Nic Schöll, while Bob Herber’s experience on the Dutch track resulted in him taking fifth place overall in the Am class entered Selleslagh Racing Team Mercedes-AMG.

Silver Cup points leaders Jan Kisiel and Max Koebolt finished the session in 12th place overall, while their teammates and Pro-Am points leaders Luci Trefz and Marcus Paverud were 22nd.

Track action at Zandvoort continues tomorrow with qualifying at 8.30 am local time. Qualifying will be streamed live on the GT4 European Series website, YouTube and Facebook channel.
