Phoenix Racing confirms series return with Møller Madsen and Freiburghaus
6 February 2019
Phoenix Racing will return to the GT4 European Series in 2019, with defending champion and 2018 Pirelli Junior Cup winner Nicolaj Mølller Madsen and Cédric Freiburghaus the first drivers confirmed for the new season.
The Nürburgring based team will continue to race the Audi R8 LMS GT4 in the series, aiming to defend the Silver Cup drivers title and to fight for the Teams Trophy. For the 2019 season, the team also revealed a striking new livery for the #1 car.
"I am very grateful for another year with Phoenix Racing," Møller Madsen said. "I can’t wait to get back on track with the #1 car and attempt to defend my title. With Cédric as my teammate, we have a great chance at achieving this goal. I will be giving my all to give Ernst and the whole team something to celebrate once again."
Swiss driver Freiburghaus, who made his GT4 European Series debut at the Hungaroring in 2016, will start his third consecutive full season in the series and his second with the German team.
"I’m really looking forward to my second season with Phoenix Racing. We had a great partnership last year even if the race weekends didn’t always go to plan," Freiburghaus said.
"We learned a great deal and I am confident that we will be fighting at the head of the field in 2019. I can’t wait to get back in the car and onto the track. I would like to thank the team and my sponsors for giving me this chance."
"The goal for Nicolaj in the coming season is defending his title, that’s without a doubt”, said team bos Ernst Moser. “Here at Phoenix, we will be doing everything in our power to help him as best we can. It was important to get Cédric Freiburghaus on board as Nicolaj’s teammate."
"Cedric and the team are working well together and for him it is the logical next step. Last year he often proved his great fighting spirit, but he wasn’t always rewarded for it," Moser added.
"Both demonstrated what they can do with our Audi R8 LMS GT4 last year. The championship will be really exciting once again, I can’t wait."
Phoenix Racing will confirm drivers for its second Audi R8 LMS GT4 at a later date.
