CMR completes GT4 International Cup practice sweep as #26 Alpine hits the front
30 November 2018
CMR completed a free practice sweep at the Bahrain International Circuit, with the French squad’s #26 Alpine A110 topping the second session ahead of this weekend’s GT4 International Cup.
The #36 Alpine led the way during this morning’s opening practice, but the sister machine showed its potential in the afternoon run with Antoine Leclerc emerging quickest around the 5.4km track.
Leclerc will share his Pro-Am entry with David Tuchbant this weekend and established the duo as front-runners with a lap of 2m12.846s.
The French ace was exactly one tenth of a second faster than Phoenix Racing’s Milan Dontje, who once again ran well in the #5 Audi R8 LMS and topped the Silver Cup category. Third spot went to the #44 Generation AMR SuperRacing entry of Matthew George and James Holder (Pro-Am), whose Aston Martin Vantage remained a fixture at the head of the order after a strong morning showing.
The #36 CMR-Alpine that topped the earlier session was sixth quickest in free practice 2, with Pierre Sancinéna and Pierre-Alexandre Jean (Silver Cup) just under a second shy of the pace-setting sister car. Priums Racing led the Am class thanks to Peter Larsen, who took 13th spot overall in his #51 Ginetta G55 GT4.
The afternoon session ran without major incident, with no red flag periods during the 80-minute outing. The next track action will see qualifying take place at 17.10 local time, when two 20-minute sessions will decide the grid for tomorrow’s qualifying races.
Live coverage of the event will begin with the qualifying races, followed by the evening’s deciding main race. All three contests will be available on the official GT4 European Series and Championnat de France - FFSA GT4 France websites and Facebook pages.
