Reiter Engineering announces Young Stars for Misano

29 March 2017

Reiter Engineering has confirmed the Reiter Young Stars for the opening round of the GT4 European Series Northern Cup at Misano.

The German squad has named a mixture of experience and new talent for the first race of the 2017 season, which will see the top two drivers earning a seat in the 2018 Blancpain GT Series.

Among the new drivers at Misano is reigning Pirelli World Challenge GTS class champion Brett Sandberg, who will share the RYS Team Pankl KTM X-Bow GT4 with German driver Benjamin Mazatis.

Venezuelan racing driver Jonathan Cecotto, the son of former F1 driver and motorcycle world champion Johnny Cecotto and brother of GP2 Series driver Johnny Cecotto Jr, will join series returnee Lennart Marioneck in the RYS Team Kiska KTM.

Belgian driver Jamie Vandenbalck returns for a second season in the Reiter Young Stars cup and he will team up with another returnee, Mads Siljehaug from Norway. Vandenbalck and Siljehaug will share the RYS Team InterNetX car.

Laura Kraihamer, who finished just 9.5 points behind last year's winner Caitlin Wood, is back for another attempt of winning a Blancpain GT Series seat. The Austrian will race with Cedric Freiburghaus, who was fourth in the men's standings last season in the RYS Team True Racing entry.

Marylin Niederhauser joins the series this season after two years in German Formula 4 and at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli the Swiss driver will share the RYS Team WP car with Reiter works driver Naomi Schiff

Driving the RYS Team Holinger car are 2016 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Finland champion Emil Westman and Slovakian driver Samuel Sladecka, while KTM factory driver Reinhard Kofler will race with Eike Angermayr in the RYS Team KTM entry.

Arne Hoffmeister is set to compete in the eighth car, his team mate for Misano will be Stephane Kox, the daughter of long-time Reiter Lamborghini driver Peter Kox.

Unlike last year there will be no separate champions for male and female drivers. The top two at the end of the season will get the opportunity to race in the Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup in 2018.
